This study gives a deeper understanding on how ndp-msh could ameliorate ischemic events in stroke. It is suggested that the infalmmatory penumbra evolves over a time of seven days post the ischemic event. So the application of SC makes perfectly sense, since it releases its drug afa over a period of 7-10 days.

In this study they used the MS drug fingolimod, and stated:
"Interestingly, statistically significant effects of fingolimod on blood lymphocyte counts were mostly obtained after three days of treatment, suggesting that its beneficial effects are not obtained during the acute phase (0–24 h), but rather during the subacute phase of ischemic stroke (24 h to seven days). "
